Right now the new StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.0 is being built. The sources of RHEL 5 were released from Red Hat on the 14th of March 07, which allows us to build the AS series. Certainly the commitment to Open Source by Red Hat must be applauded.
Here a screen shot from one of our many scripts, which help us building the base of the new system, showing the GNOME Terminal running the compile script...
The StartCom AS-5 is of course a RHEL clone, but with some minor differences. Red Hat offers two different versions, one for Server and one for Client. At StartCom this will be combined to one OS release. Obviously one can make the appropriate package selection, lets say if or if not to run the 3D desktop on the server
Expected test release of the AS-5 is during the third week of March 2007, which will be announced accordingly. Also ML-6, the MultiMedia Edition will be released in the near future, but no release date has been set yet.
At last, StartCom will soon make a special announcement - which is still a secret for now. But keep coming back here and watch out...
